The State of Michigan allows for up to six snow days in any given academic year. Unless the state grants forgiveness due to extenuating circumstances, any days over six must be made up by either adding days to the end of the school year, extending the length of a school day, or cancelling vacation days.
In order to avoid this, St. Rose will implement virtual lessons on any days above the state limit. The teachers will post online independent learning lessons in core content areas (math, science, social studies, ELA, and theology) for the students to complete while at home. Students and parents will be sent a notice via email to visit their teacher's classroom pages for instructions and any necessary links. The students will follow the plans which will culminate with an online quiz or assignment. The quiz or assignment will track names and count as attendance for the day. The work should take two to three hours to complete and satisfies the state to be counted as a day of instruction.
Any student that does not have internet access will be given up to three days at school to complete the assignments with paper copies of the lessons.
The bottom line: no changes to our school calendar will be necessary!
